“Portraits of Sophia” is a triptych I had painted for my final assignment in Painting I. Having wrestled tremendously with painting the human face throughout the course, I decided to challenge myself to paint not one, but three different expressions of my best friend, Sophia. The triptych follows a progression of expression, from one of recognition, ponderance, and eventually relief. The challenges of this piece found itself in both the technical aspects, but also the hopes of capturing her essence in totality.
